Calendar import guide

How to Import an ICS File to Google Calendar

Use this guide after creating an ICS file for a shift schedule, pay period calendar, meeting, or reminder. The import happens inside Google Calendar; WCalendar only creates the file.

Before you import

Preview the generated dates in WCalendar first. Importing an ICS file adds events to the Google Calendar you select, so it is easier to fix mistakes before the file is imported.

1. Download the ICS file

Generate your calendar in WCalendar and choose Download ICS. Save the file somewhere you can find it again.

2. Open Google Calendar settings

In Google Calendar on the web, open settings and look for the Import & export area.

3. Choose the file and target calendar

Select the ICS file, choose the calendar where the events should be added, then confirm the import.

4. Review the imported events

Check a few dates after import to confirm that the calendar, labels, and date range match what you expected.

Import is not subscription

An imported ICS file is a snapshot. If your shift pattern or pay period dates change, generate a fresh file and import the updated version.

Frequently asked questions

Can I import a WCalendar ICS file into Google Calendar?
Yes. Download the ICS file from WCalendar, then use Google Calendar's Import & export settings to import the file into one of your calendars.
Will imported ICS events update automatically?
No. Importing an ICS file is a one-time action. If you change the schedule later, generate and import a new file.
Can I delete imported events later?
Yes. Imported events are added to your Google Calendar like normal events. Review the target calendar before importing so the events are easier to find later.
