Subscribe to a Calendar on iPhone

iPhone calendars can work with imported files and subscribed calendar URLs. WCalendar currently focuses on downloadable ICS files, so this guide explains the difference before you choose a workflow.

Import vs subscribe

Import and subscribe are different calendar workflows. Import is best for a fixed file. Subscription is best when a calendar is hosted at a URL and may update over time.

Import an ICS file

Use import when you downloaded a calendar file. The events are added once and do not automatically follow future changes.

Subscribe to a calendar URL

Use subscription when someone gives you a calendar URL. The calendar app may periodically refresh that source.

1. Decide whether you have a file or a URL

WCalendar's current export is a file download. If you have a URL from another service, use that service's subscription instructions.

2. Use ICS for WCalendar schedules

Generate the schedule, preview the dates, and download the ICS file. Then open or import that file with your calendar app.

3. Regenerate when the schedule changes

Because WCalendar does not host subscription URLs today, create a new ICS file when your shift pattern or pay period assumptions change.

Frequently asked questions

Can I subscribe to a WCalendar schedule on iPhone?
Not yet. WCalendar currently generates downloadable ICS and CSV files. It does not host subscription calendar URLs.
What is the difference between import and subscribe?
Import adds a file's events once. Subscribe connects to a calendar URL that can refresh later if the source changes.
Can I still use WCalendar files on iPhone?
Yes. Generate an ICS file and open it on your iPhone or send it to the calendar app you use.
